The Country Strategy Paper III (CSP III) 2017-2021, which is the product of a joint consultation process between the two governments, is focused on contributing to the evidence base for climate change adaptation (CCA) as a means for advancing South Africa’s transition to a climate resilient society and an inclusive adaptive green economy.

The European Union remains committed to its partnership with South Africa, while South Africa looks forward to an increase in trade thanks to the SADC-EU Economic Partnership Agreement. This was the message from the celebration of the 68th anniversary of Europe Day at an event in Pretoria hosted jointly by the EU Ambassador to South Africa, Marcus Cornaro and his wife Astrid, and the EIB Regional Representative, Tom Anderson.

The new EU programme ‘Employment Promotion through small, micro and medium enterprises Support Programme for South Africa’, worth €52 million, will help to boost job creation in South Africa by supporting the country’s National Development Plan 2030, which foresees that 90% of new jobs in the country should come from small and emerging business by 2030. Implemented by the South African Department for Small Business Development, the new programme will help reduce the cost of doing business for small enterprises, improve business, production and marketing skills, increase access to funding by de-risking enterprise development lending and keeping the interest rate at reasonable levels.

The South Africa-European Union Structured Dialogue Forum on Human Rights (SA-EU SDF) convened its fifth meeting in Pretoria on 27 March 2018.
