The goal of the Individual Fellowships is to enhance the creative and innovative potential of experienced researchers, wishing to diversify their individual competence in terms of skill acquisition through advanced training, international and intersectoral mobility. Individual Fellowships provide opportunities to researchers of any nationality to acquire and transfer new knowledge and to work on research and innovation in Europe (EU Member States and Horizon 2020 Associated Countries) and beyond.

The World Academy of Sciences Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Partner (TWAS-SAREP) seeks to honour an outstanding scientist who has collaborated on trans-boundary research projects contributing to, or made possible by, good international relations in the developing world. The deadline is 20 August 2018.

Applications are open for the 2018 African Union Kwame Nkrumah Awards for Scientific Excellence. The objective is to award top African scientists for their achievements and valuable discoveries and findings in science, technology and innovation. The closing date for nominations is 10 November 2018.

A new tools has been launched to help identify high potential innovations and innovators in EU-funded research and innovation projects.

South Africa, through the Department of Science & Technology has participated actively in the last few editions of ESOF and will continue to do so at ESOF 2018. South Africa will be present at various sessions, engaging on broad issues that are of relevance globally, bringing a South African perspective to the conversations that will be taking place at ESOF.
